The 3 Minute Wardrobe: Quick & Easy Dressing

London Times Curve Bethany Sheath Dress - Maggy London

We’ve all been there – sharing a romantic walk on the beach with Idris Elba when, all of a sudden, you hear your alarm ringing in the distance. You try to get back to that moonlit walk but it’s too late. You roll around trying to find your phone under your unnecessary mountain of pillows and, when you do, you realize that it’s 7:55AM and that’s your 5th alarm.

You are officially late for work.

Normally this would be cause for serious panic, but for a seasoned vet in the “I seriously overslept” department, I am here to share some tips to help you through this sticky situation!

Tip #1: Dresses are your best friends!

In my opinion, dresses are the perfect wardrobe piece. They are a complete outfit in and of themselves, leaving very little need for early morning decision making. It is always a good idea to have one dress that you can count on when you are short on time – a dress that you know will always look good and that can be worn in a variety of weather conditions. For me, this London Times Curve Bethany Sheath dress is that dress! The illusion neck and ruffled body create a flattering silhouette while also making you look polished and put together with only minutes to get ready! Paired with my comfy work heels (aka heels I can run to catch the bus with), this look can be thrown together in less than a minute, leaving two whole minutes for hair and make-up – plenty of time!

Tip #2: Bun it up!

With two minutes left for your hair and make-up, simplicity truly is key here. My go to hairstyle is the lower nape messy bun. Compared to its more weekend appropriate top bun cousin, the lower nape bun is all class, allowing for some messiness in the form of some expertly placed loose hairs. Not only is this look the universal “I’m a boss babe” hair style, it takes 15 seconds in total to get together, making it a necessity during those hectic mornings (no straightener or curling iron required!).

Tip #3: Save the falsies for another day!

Save the face beat for another day – on a morning like this, that natural soft glam is your go to. There is absolutely no time for a full contour, eye shadow, killer lipstick routine but you can still achieve a glam look without them! Instead of contouring, opt for highlighter on your cheek bones and right above your jaw to create a strobe effect – basically the opposite of contouring that is achievable in a fraction of the time. Paired with a neutral mauve tone lipstick (Verve by Mac Cosmetics) that you can slap on as you race out the door, your make up routine is cut down immensely, getting you out of that door before 8am!

With these tips in mind, you can successfully put together a work outfit on those mornings where you hit snooze one too many times. Instead of panicking and thinking of ways to sound sick over the phone, embrace the “I just got rolled out of bed” slay and make it work for you! If all else fails, always make sure to have a go-to dress in your closet that you can always count on. This will eliminate any morning decisions and will ensure that you get to work on time!
